"If average attendances in Ligue 1 don't exceed 20,000, this is partly due to the work related to the organisation of Euro 2016," Wulfran Devauchelle, consultant at Kurt Salmon told NTF on 06/06/2013. He commented on the crowds of the 2012/13 season and believes "it is likely that the level of attendances at the end of the 2013/14 season will average around 21,000 spectators."

Compared to 2011/12, attendances in 2012/13 rose by about 2%, but many clubs have reported declines, how can this be explained?

This can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, there is Lille who averaged over 40,000 fans per match this year, as opposed to 17,000 in 2012/12. However, their occupancy rate has lessened since last season when they played at the 18,000 seater Villeneuve Stadium.
