Qatar 2022: Vinci wins contract to build Doha underground line

On the 05/06/2013, Qatar Rail announced that French company BTP Vinci have won the contract to build one of four planned underground lines in Dohar, capital of Qatar, that will link several of the stadiums being built for the 2022 World Cup.

Vinci, Impreglio (Italy) and PORR Bau (Austria) are the companies that have been selected to build the four underground lines in Doha. A consortium led by South Korean company Samsung C&T Corp will be responsible for building the main metro stations. The total value of the four contracts is worth €6.27bn.

Since 2011, Vinci have a built a tram network in the Qatari city of Lusail, (15km north of Doha), and remain in the running, along with Bouyges and Eiffage, to be tasked with constructing one of the ten new stadiums planned for the competition.
