DFB: Helmut Sandrock resigns as secretary general of the German federation

Helmut Sandrock has resigned "with immediate effect" as the secretary general of the German Federation, announced the DFB on 26/02/2016. He had held the post since 2012. "My departure will give a newly elected president of the DFB the chance to propose a new secretary general for election at the next extraordinary congress of the DFB (in April 2016)," said Helmut Sandrock, on 26/02/2016.

Helmut Sandrock announced his decision to leaders of the DFB: the first two vice-presidents, Rainer Koch and Reinhard Rauball, as well as treasurer Reinhard Grindel. His resignation follows a scandal that has shaken the German Federation concerning the awarding of the host country for the of 2006 World Cup (on 06/07/2000). Helmut Sandrock served as tournament director on the organising committee for the 2006 World Cup. Wolfgang Niersbach resigned from the presidency of the German federation on 11/09/2015.
