Serie A: increased assistance to relegated clubs in the 2015-18 TV rights distribution agreement

The Ordinary Assembly of the Lega Serie A voted to double, from €30m to €60m maximum, the total amount reserved for the three Serie A TIM teams demoted to the Serie B, announced the Lega Serie A on 26/02/2016, as part of the distribution of audiovisual rights to Serie A clubs for the 2015-2018 cycle. These "parachute" payments will be distributed according to the number of seasons in Serie A the relegated has participated in over the last three or four years.

The new criteria for the distribution of television rights between Serie A clubs was approved by 18 out of 20 clubs, with AC Chievo Verona and US Città di Palermo opposed. The total audiovisual rights amount to €1.2bn per season for the 2015-2018 cycle. Serie A clubs will (jointly) receive €120m more compared to the previous cycle, a shared amount distributed equally between 40% and 60%, depending on the final table.
