Facebook: rankings of the European Top 5 leagues (March 2016)

The Premier League is the most popular European championship on Facebook with more than 221.5 million fans across its 20 clubs playing in the 2015-16 season (an average of 11 million fans per club), according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 02/03/2016.

Only 6 of the 20 Premier League clubs have less than one million fans. The Liga BBVA is the second most popular league with 200 million fans, 90.8 million (45.2%) of which belong to FC Barcelona and 87.1 million (43.4%) to Real MadridCF. The Serie A TIM is the third most popular league with 67.6 million Facebook fans.

• Leicester City FC (Premier League) have increased 47.2% from 1.38 million fans to 2.03 million fans on Facebook.
  • Last month, the club recorded an increase of 20.1%.
  • Leicester City are currently first in the English championship in 2015-16 with 57 points, three points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur FC in second (54 points) after 28 matchdays.
