MLS: all 20 clubs have a shirt sponsor for the 2016 season, with an average price of $3.2m (€2.9m)

For the first time in the league's history, all 20 MLS clubs have a shirt sponsor in place at the beginning of the season, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 04/03/2016. The 2016 MLS season begins with all 20 clubs in action on Sunday 06/03/2016.

The San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo, the only two clubs without a shirt sponsor in 2015, recently concluded deals with Sutter Health and the mining company BHP Billiton, respectively. The Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC also recently renewed their existing contracts for the 2016 season.

Based on estimates from the American media, the average amount for a shirt sponsorship contract in MLS is $3.2m (€2.9m, as of 04/03/2016) in 2016. This amount is up 28% from two seasons ago, when MLS had an average price of $2.5m (about €2.3m at the time) per shirt sponsorship in 2014. The LA Galaxy have the most valuable contract for their agreement with Herbalife (nutrition products) at $4.4m (€4.1m) per year. Columbus Crew SC have the lowest known contract, at $1.5m (€1.34m) per year with Barbasol (hygiene products).
