"Technology is obviously an important topic that we need to analyse seriously. We're in 2016 and we can no longer close our eyes to it. Goal-line technology is already a reality, so we need to look into the matter and carry out real-life tests, so to say, to see in which kind of circumstances technology should be used," said Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, on 04/03/2016.

Gianni Infantino, who was elected FIFA president on 26/02/2016, took part in the 130th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the IFAB at St. David's Hotel in Cardiff (WAL), on Saturday, 05/03/2016. Video assistance for referees was among the topics on the agenda of the AGM, the only forum in which changes to football’s Laws of the Game can be made.

The Executive Committee of the IFAB "strongly recommended" allowing video assistance for referees on an experimental basis at the annual business meeting in London (ENG) on 07/01/2016, which served as a preparatory meeting before the annual general meeting.
