"Today we have taken an historic decision for football. The IFAB and FIFA are now leading the debate and not stopping the debate," said Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, at the end of the 130th annual assembly of the International Football Association Board in Cardiff (Wales) on 05/03/2016, at which it was decided to allow tests lasting at least two years of "video assistance for match officials."

"We have shown that we are listening to the fans, to the players, to football and we are applying common sense. Of course, we have to be cautious and we are, but we are also open to looking at the matters and take concrete steps forward to show that a new era has started," added Gianni Infantino.

"The expectation is not to achieve 100% accuracy in decisions for every single incident, but to avoid clearly incorrect decisions that are pre-defined “game-changing” situations," said FIFA on 05/03/2016:
