Germany: Volkswagen will not extend its partnerships with Schalke 04 and 1860 Munich in 2016-17

The German automaker Volkswagen will not extend its partnerships with FC Schalke 04 (Bundesliga) and TSV 1860 München (2.Bundesliga), which both at the end of the 2015-16 season, announced the group to the German news agency DPA on 08/03/2016.

Volkswagen is a premium partner of FC Schalke 04 and the shirt sponsor of TSV 1860 Munich until the end of the 2015-16 season. The amount of the annual amount for each of these partnerships, is estimated between €1 and €1.5 million by the German media. Conversely, Volkswagen will soon extend its agreement with the DFB Pokal by four seasons (the current contract began in 2012-13 and runs until the end of the 2015-16 season), according to DPA.

The automotive group is accused of fraud regarding pollutant emissions on more than 11 million vehicles worldwide. Volkswagen must economise in order to fight the legal compensation claims worth billions of euros, primarily in Germany and the United States.
