New York Red Bulls - Toronto FC (0-2), at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison (New Jersey, USA), was the first game of the 21st MLS season, on Sunday 06/03/2016 (kick-off at 13:30 local time, 19:30 CET). Nine other games were also played on 06/03/2016, meaning all clubs were in action on the Sunday 06/03/2016.

The 20 franchises of Major League Soccer are divided geographically into two conferences, East and West.

• Eastern Conference: Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew SC, DC United, Montreal Impact, New England Revolution, New York City FC, New York Red Bulls, Orlando City SC, Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC.

• Western Conference: Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC, Sporting Kansas City and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

The 2015 edition of MLS drew an average of 21,574 spectators per match; higher than Ligue 1 in 2015-16 after 29 matchdays (20,494), and only slightly less than the Italian Serie A after 27 matchdays (21,934).
