NHL: Yahoo! obtains the rights to stream games which are not broadcast on TV

Yahoo!, the American web portal and search engine, has announced that it has obtained the rights to NHL games which are not broadcast on national TV, and intends to distribute them via its dedicated free streaming service Yahoo! Sports, on 10/03/2016. The portal will broadcast up to four games per week as well as the highlights of each match throughout the season.

"This alliance brings us one step closer to providing fans a live professional sporting event every day, on Yahoo, completely frictionless and for free -- no cable subscription or authentication required. We remain committed to delivering the best digital content to our users and advertisers, and the NHL’s premium content nicely complements our offering of live and on-demand partner content, including Yahoo/MLB’s Game of the Day, Yahoo/NBC Sports content and our recently announced deal with the PGA Tour (the professional golf circuit in the USA)," said Phil Lynch, vice-president of media partnership at Yahoo!, on 10/03/2016.
