Brussels: athletics track at new Euro 2020 stadium?

The inclusion of an athletics track at the new national stadium in Brussels is a "possibility", according to Rudi
Vervoort, the Minister-President of the Brussels region, on the 10/06/2013. The Belgian capital wants to build a new stadium to replace the King Baudouin Stadium (50,000 seats, former Heysel stadium) to hold Euro 2020 matches.

"From what we know, it is not possible to include a track at an indoor stadium like in Stockholm. Now, if we show that it is technically possible if we do it correctly, then why not? We are not narrow-minded," said Vervoort.

"If we really want to ensure the continuation of the Van Damme athletics meeting, one of the most prestigious in the world, there has to be a stadium with an athletics track," said Fabian Maingain, representing the FDF (Federalists Democrats Francophones) at the municipal council of the City of Brussels on the 10/06/2013. Kris Peeters, Minister-President of Flanders, said he is "hesitant" about building a stadium without a running track, on 09/06/2013.
