With €49.2m awarded to Bayern Munich for their 2012/13 victory, the Champions League is the most profitable sporting event in the world, according to a report published by Forbes on 05/06/2013.

The Champions League is more profitable than winning the World Cup (€23.5m for Spain in 2010) and the Euros (€21.9m for Spain in 2012).

The U.S. business magazine has taken the prize money awarded to the winners of every competition in question, excluding season-long competitions (i.e. Premier League etc.) and divided the amount by the number of players. Football is represented in five of the top ten most profitable sporting events in the world.
