"2015 was an incredibly tough year for FIFA, and one that will take some time and collective hard work to fully recover from. The challenges of the past 12 months are reflected in our financial results for the year," stated Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, in the foreword of the Financial and Governance Report 2015 of the international federation, published on 17/03/2016.

"These results stand as a cautionary tale of what can happen if we lose sight of the primary responsibilities of our mission, and if we fail to take the necessary steps to protect our organisation against wrongdoing," added the new president, elected on 26/02/2016.

"For the first time since 2002, FIFA posted a negative result of $122m (€107.7m) in 2015. In comparison to the first year of the previous cycle (2011-2014), revenue increased by $82m (€72.5m) to $1,152m (€1,017m)," stated the international federation, in its press release with the Financial and Governance Report 2015, on 17/03/2016.
