Premier League: Econet (RSA) acquires the 2016-2019 broadcasting rights in sub-Saharan Africa

The South African telecommunications group Econet has acquired the free-TV rights to broadcast the Barclays Premier League in sub-Saharan Africa during the 2016-2019 period, on 17/03/2016. The group will broadcast one Saturday afternoon match on every weekend of the season, via its platform Kwese Sports, in fifty countries (see below).

"The English Premier League is a globally prestigious sporting competition, one that is deeply loved by millions of African sports fans. As such we are very committed to obtaining these rights and have invested significantly to acquire them," said Joseph Hundah, CEO of Econet Media, on 17/03/2016.

The Kwese Sports platform will be launched in August 2016 (on Matchday 1 of the 2016-17 Premier League season, on 13/08/2016).
