DFB: Friedrich Curtius to be appointed secretary general of the German Federation

Friedrich Curtius, 39 years old, was unanimously voted into the role of secretary general of the DFB by the board of the German federation in Frankfurt (GER), on 18/03/2016.

This appointment must be ratified at the Extraordinary Federal Assembly, in Frankfurt on 15/04/2016. Friedrich Curtius, a trained lawyer and former chief of staff of the president of the German Federation, succeeds Helmut Sandrock, who resigned on 26/02/2016.

At the same Extraordinary Assembly, the 259 delegates will also elect the new DFB president, following the resignation of Wolfgang Niersbach, on 09/11/2015, in response to the scandal concerning the organisation of the 2006 World Cup. Since then, the two officials have occupied the role of interim president of the federation: Reinhard Rauball, senior vice-president of the DFB in charge of professional football and president of DFL, and Rainer Koch, senior vice-president of the DFB in charge of amateur football.
