Australia: SBS public group acquires the exclusive rights to Euro 2016 for free-TV

The Australian public broadcaster SBS has acquired the exclusive free-TV broadcasting rights, in Australia, for Euro 2016 on 22/03/2016. The agreement stipulates that eight matches in the group stage as well as the final will be broadcast on the SBS and SBS HD channels, with the rest of the coverage to be defined later. A daily roundup with the best moments of the day will be broadcast on SBS 2.

"SBS is pleased to have obtained the exclusive free to-air rights for the UEFA Euro 2016. SBS has been in the football business for over 30 years and we believe that football is a sport that truly reflects our unique Charter by connecting Australia’s diverse communities," said Ken Shipp, director of sports of SBS, on 22/03/2016.

SBS acquired part of the rights for the Premier League from the Australian broadcasting group Optus, for which it gave up part of the rights of the 2018 World Cup, on 17/03/2016.
