The Ciudad Deportiva de Majadahonda, the training centre of Club Atlético de Madrid (Liga BBVA), has been renamed the Ciudad Deportiva Wanda Atlético Madrid in official communications made by the Madrid club since 09/03/2016. Spanish media had reported the name change since 02/03/2016.

Wanda Madrid Investment, a subsidiary of the Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group (specialising in entertainment, hospitality and real estate), acquired a 20% stake in Atlético Madrid for €44,983,163.30, on 31/03/2015. Since this acquisition Wanda had not yet activated its collaboration with the Madrid club.

The 2014-15 annual report of Atlético Madrid indicated that Wanda has made, during that season, a "voluntary" contribution of €15m "without compensation" to the club's academy. The Chinese conglomerate has activated its investments in European football by organising the "China's Future Star Programme" in partnership with Atlético Madrid, a training scheme for Chinese players aged from 13 to 15 years old, in Spain, over a period of three years, since 2012-13.
