Spain: 141 million illegally viewed matches in 2015, which could have been worth €174m

141 million football matches have been illegally viewed in Spain in 2015 (+1% compared to 2014), representing an estimated total value of €410m (-19% compared to 2014) if all these illegal viewings were converted into purchases, according to a study by the GfK and the Observatory of piracy in Spain, on 31/03/2016. The actual loss for Spanish football is valued at €174m (the study estimates that 42% of these matches would have viewed legally, in the absence of illegal offers).

4.3 billion pieces of cultural content were illegally downloaded in Spain in 2015, for a total market value of €24.05bn. The actual overall loss is estimated at €1.669bn using an average purchase conversion rate of 8% of all media in the absence of illegal offers. If the number of pirated cultural content pieces is down 3.37%, the value of this aggregate value of this content is up 3.4%.
