CIES: Ligue 1 is the Top 5 championship with the fewest players from abroad (31.2%)

31.2% of players who make up the squads of Ligue 1 clubs in 2015-16 are from abroad, representing the lowest percentage of international players of the Top 5 European Championships, according to the "Letter of the Big 5" from the CIES Football Observatory, and published on 04/04/2016.

The Premier League is the Top 5 league with the most players from abroad: 43.1% in 2015-16. Next are the Liga BBVA (37.4%), Bundesliga (36%) and the Serie A TIM (34.7%). The average percentage of international players in the Top 5 leagues is 36.5%.

With 75% of its senior squad consisting of international players, Chelsea FC (Premier League) are the club with the highest percentage of the Top 5 leagues, ahead of AS Monaco FC (Ligue 1, 73%) and Manchester City FC (Premier League, 69%). AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain (62.5%) are the only two Ligue 1 clubs to have recruited more than half of their current players abroad, which is the case of 23 of the 98 Top 5 clubs.
