NFL: Twitter gets the digital rights to broadcast ten "Thursday Night Fooball" games

The social network Twitter has acquired the digital broadcasting rights for 10 of the potential 18 games of the "Thursday Night Fooball" package (American football on Thursday night), the NFL announced on 05/04/2016.

This agreement will also allow Twitter to broadcast the highlights of "Thursday Night Fooball" games, and to broadcast the pre-game post-game coverage via its subsidiary Periscope, the live video streaming application. The duration of the contract and its financial details are not known. Yahoo had paid between €9m and €18m to acquire the exclusive rights to broadcast, only on digital platforms, the Buffalo Bills - Jacksonville Jaguars game (31-34) on 25/10/2015, watched by 15.2 million unique visitors.

The 10 games acquired by Twitter will also be broadcast on network TV by CBS and NBC (with five each), the US national free-TV channels have acquired, on 01/02/2016, the 2016-17 and 2017-18 broadcast rights for a total amount estimated at $450m (€412.8m) per season, or ($45m / €41.3m per game).
