Premier League: Aston Villa introduce "subtle yet important changes" to its club badge

Aston Villa FC (Premier League) presented the new club badge, which will be used from the 2016-17 season, on 06/04/2016. The club wishes to have a visual identity more "effective", including for communications and digital plan.

"Like all football clubs, Aston Villa has updated the way it looks from time to time -- it's part of our evolution. The club has had at least eight iterations of its badge over our 142 year history. Kicking off the 2016/17 season, our shirts will proudly boast an updated badge -- incorporating some subtle yet important changes," said the English club.

The new badge will still feature a lion (the club's emblem) in heraldry, but an expanded version compared to the previous iterations. The new lion has claws, to meet the demand of the club's fans. The initials "AVFC" are enlarged, while the club slogan "Prepared" disappears. The star symbolising the Champions League victory in 1981-82 retains its place.
