Turkey: Besiktas defeat Bursaspor in club's first match in the new Vodafone Arena (43,500 seats)

The Besiktas JK - Bursaspor match (3-2, Matchday 28 of the Spor Toto Süper Lig) was the game played at the Vodafone Arena, the new stadium of Besiktas JK, on 11/04/2016.

Vodafone Arena, which Besiktas own and operate, has a capacity of 43,500 seats. The new stadium, whose construction began in June 2013, was built on the site of the old Inönü Stadium (32,000 seats). The cost of the Vodafone Arena is estimated at about 400 million Turkish lira (€126m on 12/04/2016), of which 350 million (€110m) has been funded by the club. The naming contract for the Vodafone Arena is estimated at €86.5m over 10 years; thus the British multinational telecommunications company Vodafone will pay approximately €8.6m per year to Besiktas, with a possible extension of five further years.

Vodafone Arena was officially opened on Sunday 10/04/2016, the evening before the Besiktas - Bursaspor match, with a ceremony attended by 6,000 people, including Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Turkey, and many political personalities and members of the the Turkish sporting scene.
