21,972,129 total spectators attended the 1230 regular season games of the NBA in 2015-16, an average attendance of 17,864 spectators per game, announced the North American basketball league, on 14/04/2016. The total and average attendances are up 0.2% over the 2014-15 regular season (21,926,548 total spectators, 17,826 average per game).

The 2015-16 attendance figures are the best in NBA history, higher than 2014-15, which was the previous top mark. The average arena fill rate the 2015-16 regular season games was 94%, the same as in 2014-15, equally the best mark in league history.

Sixteen franchises have an arena fill rate of at least 98%

  • Five NBA franchises posted an arena fill rate greater than 100% in 2015-16.
    • This is explained by the sale of "standing room" tickets: People who have these places have no appointed seats but can watch the game standing in various places.
  • 16 franchises have a fill rate higher than or equal to 98%.
  • The Chicago Bulls had the best attendance of the 2015-16 regular season with 21,820 average spectators (fill rate: 104%).
