"Today, a new league has been born. When a page is turned, turn it completely and leave the future to write the next page. So I decided to retire today. This decision takes effect immediately," stated Frederic Thiriez, president of the LFP, at the general meeting of the French League in Paris (FRA) on 15/04/2016.

Frederic Thiriez, president of the LFP since May 2002, announced on 08/03/2016 that he would not seek a new term as president of the LFP during the elections scheduled in autumn 2016. Thiriez, who is also the president of the newly formed World League Association, cited "personal and professional" reasons to explain his immediate departure from the LFP.

Didier Quillot, the new CEO of the French Professional Football League, will convene a board meeting of the LFP "next week" to designate an interim president (in accordance with the bylaws of the LFP), he announced on 15/04/2016. The interim president will remain in office at least until the next general meeting of the League, scheduled on Friday 27/05/2016 in Paris FRA).
