Euro 2020: Dutch Football Federation support Rotterdam new stadium plans

The KNVB (Dutch Football Federation) have announced that they officially support the proposed new stadium in Rotterdam on 14/06/2013. The future stadium will replace the De Kuip stadium (51,000 seats), currently used by Feyenoord, and could be used as part of the Euro 2020.

Local authorities "are prepared to guarantee €165m for a new stadium, instead of exploring the redevelopment of the Eredivisie giant’s historic De Kuip home" said the head of sports for the City of Rotterdam, Antoinette Laan.

“UEFA has recently tested all plans. The report shows that the current stadium - even after renovations - will not meet the requirements of UEFA. New construction is necessary to play (national team games). The national team again in Rotterdam is something we wholeheartedly support. The new stadium also allows Rotterdam a chance to become a host city for Euro 2020," said Bert van Oostveen, president of the KNVB.

The UEFA European Championships 2020 will be held in 13 cities in 13 different countries.
