FIFA: first meeting of the Council, which replaces the ExCo, in Mexico City on 09 and 10/05/2016

The FIFA Council -- which replaces the Executive Committee in the new FIFA Statutes adopted on 26/02/2016 and entered into force on 27/04/2016 -- will meet for the first time in Mexico City (MEX) on 09 and 10/05/2016, ahead of the 66^th Ordinary FIFA Congress, held in the same location on 12 and 13/05/2016.

The FIFA Council eventually will have 37 members, including the president, but will meet in Mexico City in an identical composition to the Executive Committee (25 members, including the president). The six confederations have until 30/09/2016 to elect the additional members ("Each confederation must ensure to elect at least one woman among their members to the FIFA Council," instructed FIFA).

The first meeting of the FIFA Council with its full complement of members is scheduled for 13 and 14/10/2016 in Zurich (SUI). The agenda of the FIFA Council meeting on 09 and 10/05/2016 includes, in particular, the preparation of the 66^th Congress, the reports of the various standing committees, and a point on the reform of the governance of FIFA, currently underway.
