Euro 2016: €12m (France €8m, UEFA €4m) added to security budget, specifically for the fan-zones

The French State (€8m) and UEFA (€4m) will finance €12m in additional costs for the security of the fan zones for Euro 2016, announced the steering committee of Euro 2016 after a meeting in Paris (FRA), on 27/04/2016.

The overall cost of security for the 10 fan zones is now estimated at €24m, including this new €12m of additional costs, following the terrorist attacks of 13/11/2015 in Paris.

"Patrick Kanner (French minister for sport) announced that, at the request of Alain Juppé (mayor of Bordeaux, the co-financing of these additional costs will be borne by the State to €8m. Jacques Lambert (president of the EURO 2016 SAS organsing company) announced, in response to the same request, that UEFA will bear the other €4m (previously, UEFA proposed to finance an additional €3m in security costs). This security budget increase has already received a favorable opinion from the UEFA Finance Committee, and should be confirmed by the UEFA Executive Committee at the meeting in Budapest (HUN) on 02/05/2016," stated the steering committee of Euro 2016 on 27/04/2016.
