Premier League: PPTV channel acquires, via sub-license, the digital rights in Thailand (2016-2019)

The Thai DTT channel PPTV has acquired, for its free digital platform, the digital rights to the Premier League in Thailand for the 2016-2019 period, on 27/04/2016. These rights were purchased via sub-license from the pay-TV group beIN Sports, which acquired the 2016-2019 broadcast rights to the English Premier League in Thailand on 04/11/2015.

PPTV, a channel of the Bangkok Media & Broadcasting Ltd group, has broadcast the Premier League on its OTT platform since the 2012-13 season. During the 2013-2016 cycle, PPTV has a sub-license agreement with the pay-TV group Cable Thai Holdings (CTH), the current holder of the Premier League broadcast rights for Thailand. During the 2016-2019 cycle, PPTV will broadcast 26 of of the 380 Premier League games live each season on its free digital platform.

beIN Sports acquired the broadcast rights to the Premier League, in Thailand, for $250m (€220m) over the 2016-2019 period, according to Thai media on 26/04/2016. CTH reportedly paid $300m (€230m at the time) for 2013-2016 cycle. beIN Sports does not offer its OTT beIN Sports Connect platform in…
