Ligue 1: SC Bastia objects to the "threat" of demotion to Ligue 2 by the French DNCG control body

SC Bastia (Ligue 1) has denied reports of a "threat" to administratively demote the club to Ligue 2 by the DNCG (French National Directorate of Management Control) on 02/05/2016, published the same day in the newspaper Le Parisien. The daily paper stated that "Sporting Club de Bastia (14th in Ligue 1 after 36 matchdays and eight points clear of Stade de Reims in the relegation zone) has been under the threat of administrative relegation to Ligue 2 at the end of the season since 01/03/2016. This provisional sanction, which remained secret until now, has been confirmed to us by the Corsican club. This action taken by the DNCG will either be approved or rebuffed in June at the hearing of club's leaders before the financial control body of french football."

In its denial, SC Bastia has stated that "the club is surprised that it is possible for such statements to be published in the national press given that the season is not over yet with two league games to play (against Angers SCO on 07/05/2016 and then Stade Rennais on 14/05/2016) which may significantly impact the financial results…
