Premier League: Leicester City FC see spike in fans on social media in 2015-16

Leicester City FC, who were confirmed as the 2015-16 Premier League champions on 02/05/2016, have recorded the highest percentage increase in terms of followers on social networks this season in Europe. In August 2015 the Foxes had 471,000 Facebook fans and 191,000 Twitter followers. They now boast 4.2 million fans on Facebook (x8.9) and 659,000 followers on Twitter (x3.4) following their title victory. In total this marks a cumulative increase of over 700% on both social networks for the 2015-16 season.

The Foxes gained 600,000 new fans in total on social networks, 500,000 on Facebook and 100,000 on Twitter, simply during the evening of their coronation which was confirmed with the 2-2 draw between Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC on Matchday 36 on 02/05/2016 which leaves Tottenham second place, 7 points adrift with two games remaining, making it impossible for them to make up the deficit.
