UEFA: Kosovo becomes the 55th member of the European confederation by Congressional vote

The Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK) was admitted as the 55th member association of UEFA with immediate effect after a vote at the 40th Ordinary UEFA Congress in Budapest (HUN) on 03/05/2016. A slight majority (half plus one vote, or 28 votes out of 54) was necessary to validate their application: The FFK received 28 votes in favour (51.85%), while 24 national federations were against their admission (44.44%) and two votes were invalidated.

"The FFK has confirmed its application to FIFA, on 15/03/2016," said the International Federation on 12/04/2016, stating that this request could only succeed if Kosovo became a member of UEFA. This request will be submitted to a vote at the 66th Ordinary FIFA Congress on 12 and 13/05/2016 in Mexico City (MEX).

FIFA and UEFA have organised an inspection visit to Kosovo on 13 and 14/04/2016 by representatives of their respective governments.
