Scotland: BBC extends TV rights deal for the first four divisions in 2016-2020 (€13.4m)

The audiovisual group, BBC Scotland has extended its free audiovisual rights for radio, TV and digital platforms for the top four Scottish divisions (Scottish Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two) with the SFPL for the 2016-2020 period, on 05/05/2016. The Scottish branch of the public broadcaster BBC reportedly paid £10.6m (€13.4m) for four seasons (compared to £6.2m for the 2012-16 period which is equivalent to €7.9 million) according to the British media on 05/05/2016.

“This is fantastic news for Scottish football fans. Everyone at the SPFL is delighted that our longstanding partnership with BBC Scotland has been extended by another four years in this new and significantly improved deal for both parties. During the process of negotiating with the BBC, the SPFL Board has been very robust and clear in its view of what we believe Scottish football coverage is worth and we are pleased that this has been taken on board and reflected by an improved agreement.
