Premier League: Chelsea FC will terminate its partnership with adidas in June 2017, six years early

Chelsea FC (Premier League) and the German kit supplier Adidas will prematurely terminate their partnership at the end of the 2016-17 season "by mutual consent", six years before the originally planned end of the contract (2022-23), indicated the two parties on 11/05/2016. Adidas has been the kit supplier of the "Blues" since 2006-07.

At the time, Chelsea, whose partnership with Umbro had been set to run until June 2011, terminated its partnership with the British equipment manufacturer in June 2006 (and then had to pay them £25.5m/€37.2m in compensation), to partner with Adidas for an amount estimated at around £10m per year (€14.6m on 01/07/2006). The London club and the German kit supplier had extended their partnership for another 10 seasons (2013-2023) in a deal worth £300m (around €380m on 12/05/2016) for the period, or £30m (€38m) per season, on 21/06/2013.
