"I herewith declare my immediate resignation as president of the FIFA Audit and Compliance Committee," announced Domenico Scala (ITA-SUI), in a statement on 14/05/2016, at the 66th Ordinary FIFA Congress held in Mexico City, on 05/13/2016.

Domenico Scala has resigned in order to express his disagreement with a decision taken by the FIFA Congress "to permit the Council to appoint members on an interim basis to the vacant positions of the new committees so they can start fulfilling their roles as part of the ongoing reform process until the next FIFA Congress in 2017. In addition, the measure allows for the swift removal of members who have breached their obligations."

This decision "deprives those bodies of their independence" and "destroys a substantial achievement of the reforms," said Domenico Scala said in a statement.

The FIFA Audit and Compliance Committee is in charge of the integrity checks for potential election candidates. "It ensures the compliance and reliability of the accounts and verifies the reports of external auditors," said FIFA.
