"We are trying to assess how much a club needs to spend to build a team and the resale value of this team on the transfer market," Loïc Ravenel, co-founder of the Football Observatory at the CIES (International Centre for Sports Studies) in Neuchatel (Switzerland), told NTF on the 19/06/2013. The CIES Football Observatory presented its annual study, based on a comparative analysis of clubs and players in the five major European leagues, on the 13/06/2013.

Youth development, stability and long-term contracts are the factors of economic and sporting success highlighted by this study. NTF met with Loïc Ravenel, one of the authors of the study, who spoke of his ambitions for this CIES-led research.

The Football Observatory is a research group belonging to the CIES (International Centre for Sports Studies). The group consists of social sciences experts and specialists in the statistical analysis of sport.
