Europa League: Liverpool FC -Sevilla FC, first ever European final with goal-line technology

Goal-line technology (GLT) will be used in the final of the 2016 Europa League, Liverpool FC (Premier League) - Sevilla FC (Liga BBVA), at St. Jakob-Park in Basel (SUI ), on Wednesday 18/05/2016 (kick-off at 20:45 CET), announced UEFA on 17/05/2016.

"The Hawk-Eye system, which will also be installed for the final of the Champions League (Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid) in Milan (ITA) on 28/05/2016 and at Euro 2016, is to be used for the first time in Basel," said UEFA.

The UEFA Executive Committee approved the implementation of GLT on 22/01/2016. "This system will support the additional assistant referees who are tasked with monitoring the penalty area," said UEFA.

The Hawk-Eye company

• Hawk-Eye was chosen following a selection process that involved four companies licensed by FIFA in the field of goal-line technology.

• Hawk-Eye was the first company to receive a FIFA goal-line technology license.
