Bundesliga: Opel could get the naming rights for Mainz's stadium from 2016-17 (press)

The German automobile manufacturer Opel (a subsidiary of the US group General Motors) will affix its brand to the stadium of 1.FSV Mainz 05 (Bundesliga) from the 2016-17 season, according to the German media outlet Allgemeine Zeitung on 14/05/2016. The stadium will be known as the Opel Arena.

Mainz's stadium (34,000) has held the name of the company Coface (Coface stands for: "Compagnie française d'assurance pour le commerce extérieur") since its inauguration on 04/07/2011 (rights purchased in 2007). The German subsidiary of the French credit insurance group, which has its headquarters in Mainz, announced that it would not extend its naming partnership deal after the end of the 2015-16 season, on 02/12/2015. The contract between 1.FSV Mainz 05 and Coface was valued at €1.8m per season.

Opel has been the exclusive automobile partner of the German club since 2012-13. Both parties have extended their cooperation for the 2015-2017 period (annual amount estimated at between €0.8m and €0.9m) on 19/02/2015.
