Spain: Mediaset España will broadcast 23 of the 51 Euro 2016 matches live (official press release)

Mediaset España have acquired the TV rights for Euro 2016, in Spain, from UEFA's marketing agency, CAA Eleven, announced the Spanish broadcaster on 18/05/2016. Mediaset España will broadcast 23 of the 51 matches, including all those featuring the Spanish national team and the opening match (France-Romania on 10/06/2016), as well as all 15 matches of the knock-out stage including the Final.

Euro 2016, whose rights may have cost the Iberian broadcaster €45m, should be broadcast on Telecinco and Cuatro, free channels of the Mediaset Espana group, according to Spanish media on 12/05/2016. Mediaset had initially refused to pay the minimum price of €70m demanded by UEFA and its agency CAA Eleven. However, the Atresmedia group (Antena 3 and laSexta) may have entered into exclusive negotiations with CAA Eleven, according to Spanish media. Ultimately, UEFA reportedly agreed to lower its demands of €70m to approximately €40m as a floor price for the pay-TV and free-TV rights for Euro 2016 in Spain, according to Iberian media on 29/04/2016, thus opening the way for Mediaset to conclude a deal…
