Germany: 7.2 million viewers on ARD for the Frankfurt-Nürnberg promotion/relegation play-off

The first leg match in the promotion/relegation play-off between Eintracht Frankfurt (16th in the Bundesliga) - 1. FC Nürnberg (3rd in the 2.Bundesliga), which finished 1-1, drew 7.2 million viewers on average in Germany on the public broadcaster ARD, on Thursday 19/05/2016 at 20:30 CET. This represented a 24.5% audience share, and allowed ARD to achieve the best performance of the day in the German TV market.

However, this audience is down from the 2015 play-off between Karlsruher SC - Hamburger SV (1-2 a.e.t.), the second leg match of the promotion/relegation play-off between the 16th place team in the Bundesliga against the 3rd place team in the 2.Bundesliga (Hamburger SV ensured their survival, winning 3-2 on aggregate), which was broadcast live in Germany by the TV channel Das Erste (ARD), which saw the German public channel draw 9.49 million viewers on average during the match on Monday 01/06/2015 (kick-off at 19:00 CET).
