England: 2015-16 Championship Play-off Final could be worth £180m (€233m) to the winner

The winner of the 2015-16 Sky Bet Championship Play-off Final, Hull City AFC - Sheffield Wednesday FC at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 28/05/2016 at 17:00 GMT (18:00 CET), could earn in excess of £180m (€233m), rather than the traditionally touted figure of £120m (€155m), according to Daniel Geey, a solicitor and sports lawyer with the Field Fisher Waterhouse law firm in London (ENG), on 20/05/2016.

British media, which have called this figure a "conservative estimate", have taken to calling the promotion play-off final the "£180m game", and the most lucrative fixture in world football. Geey estimates (see below) that a promoted club - even if it finishes in last place and is relegated from the Premier League in the next season - will receive a minimum of £181m (€235m) in revenue due to this single promotion by the end of the three-year parachute payment schedule for relegated clubs.
