The creation of a new visual identity, the construction of a private training camp, the expansion of the training centre and the renovation of Stade Michael d'Ornano, these are the four pillars of the 2020 development project presented by SM Caen (Ligue 1) on 19/05/2016.

"We want to sustainably stabilise the club in Ligue 1. Tonight we wanted to present all the changes that we will make to ensure that we remain in Ligue 1, but equally we will advance the structure of the club," said Jean-François Fortin, president of SM Caen, on 19/05/2016.

In 2016-17 the Normandy club will have a new logo, a key element of its new visual identity. "This new shield provides graphic continuity with the previous logo. The imagery around the Vikings, the cornerstone of the new identity of SMC, refers to the Norman origins of Stade Malherbe, which is dear to the fans," stated SM Caen.

  • SM Caen finished in 7th place in the 2015-16 Ligue 1 table, which is the best finish for the club in the top flight since 1991-92.
