"FIFA’s deputy secretary general Markus Kattner has been dismissed from his position effective immediately," announced FIFA on 23/05/2016.

"FIFA’s internal investigation uncovered breaches of his fiduciary responsibilities in connection with his employment contract. FIFA will not comment further on any of the details, but will continue its cooperation with the relevant authorities," added the international football body.

Markus Kattner had held the position of acting secretary general since 18/09/2015, the day after Jerome Valcke was relieved his duties after being suspected of being involved in the reselling of 2014 World Cup tickets on the black market. Valcke was suspended for 12 years from any activity in football by the FIFA Ethics Committee on 12/02/2016.

Fatma Samoura (SEN), designated the new FIFA secretary general on 13/05/2016, will take office in mid-June 2016, following the investigation of an authority provided by the FIFA statutes.
