France: Promotion-relegation system on the agenda at the FFF Federal Assembly on 28/05/2016

"Promotions and relegations for Ligue 1 / Ligue 2 / Ligue National (third division)", is the title of paragraph 1 of point VIII (Amendment of other federal statutes) of the agenda of the Federal Assembly of the FFF, organised in Tours (Loire valley region, FRA) on Saturday 28/05/2016.

The decision to "continue discussions" about the number of promotion/relegation places between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 was approved by 83.77% at the Federal Assembly in Paris (FRA) on 12/12/2015.

The LFP wanted, at the time, to promote and relegate only two clubs, and to have a play-off for the third change, at the end of the 2015-16 season but the French Council of State decided to maintain three promotions and relegations between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 in 2015-16, on 03/02/2016.

However the board of the French League has decided to establish a play-off at the end of the 2016-17 season between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 (with first leg taking place at Ligue 2 club's stadium and the return leg at the Ligue 1 club's stadium), on 14/04/2016.
