Germany: Sky Deutschland to increase its subscription rate by €3 from 01/08/2016

Sky Deutschland will increase its subscription rate by € 3 from 01/08/2016, announced the pay-TV group on 25/05/2016. "An increase made necessary due to higher overall costs including the acquisition of content. For people receiving a promotional rate, it increases by 'only' €1.5 until 31/07/2017," stated Sky in its letter to its subscribers.

The group anticipates an increase in price of TV rights to the Bundesliga and the 2.Bundesliga, which it owned exclusively for the 2013-2017 cycle, on all the pay platforms (cable, satellite, Internet and mobile), for a price of €485.7m per season. The DFL launched the tender for Germany for media rights to the Bundesliga, the 2.Bundesliga, the promotion and relegation play-offs and the German Supercup for 2017 to 2021, including a "no single buyer rule", on 21/03/2016.
