Champions League Final: Real Madrid dominate Atlético economically and on social networks

With €578m in turnover, excluding player trading, in 2014-15, Real Madrid CF (Liga BBVA) have the upper hand economically over their city rivals Club Atlético de Madrid (Liga BBVA), who generated €160.9m, excluding player trading, in 2014-15. The two clubs meet in Milan (ITA) at the San Siro (80,000) in the the 2015-16 Champions League Final, on Saturday 28/05/2016 (kick-off at 20:45 CET).

The economic dominance of Real can be found in the main revenue sectors: TV rights received by Real Madrid in 2014-15 were almost four times higher than those earned by Atlético (€161.8m against €41.6m). The ratio is 6 to 1 in favour of Real in commercial revenues (€213.8m against €34.8m). Atlético Madrid have slightly reduced the economic gap in 2015-16, with an estimated budget of €194.6m for the current season (+21% compared to 2014-15), against €581.5m for Real Madrid (+0.5%).

Real Madrid are also well ahead on social networks: they have at least seven times more followers than Atlético on all major platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube).
