"Appointed by the board of the LFP, Jean-Pierre Denis has been elected president of the League by the General Assembly meeting this Friday 27/05/2016," the LFP announced on the same day.

"An independent member of the board of the LFP since December 2003 and the treasurer since June 2005, Jean-Pierre Denis is elected until the end of the current term of the board, which will end next Autumn (2016)," added the LFP on 27/05/2016.

Jean-Pierre Denis, 55 years old, succeeds Frédéric Thiriez, who had been the president of the LFP since 2002, and who resigned with immediate effect on 15/04/2016. The current statutes of the LFP stipulated that only one of the three independent members of the board, Nathalie Boy de la Tour, Jean-Pierre Denis and Jean-Michel Roussier, could be elected.

The new, revised Statutes of the LFP, adopted unanimously on 15/04/2016 and validated by the FFF on 28/05/2016, remove the present obligation to choose the League president from among the independent members of the board.

"Candidate in the Autumn? This is not on my horizon" (Jean-Pierre Denis, on 27/05/2016)
