Eurosport: virtual reality application launched for the French Open at Roland Garros

Eurosport has launched a virtual reality application which encompasses the French Open tennis tournament, in Paris from 23/05 to 05/06/2016, announced the pay-TV group on 24/05/2016. The application allows the provider to broadcast each day's highlights, the "crack of dawn", as well as exclusive behind the scenes footage of the tournament, all in 360 degrees.

“We continually strive to deliver new and exciting ways for fans to immerse themselves in world-class sport. Using innovative production technologies, the Eurosport VR app will transport fans right to the heart of the action and bring them closer than ever to their heroes," said Peter Hutton, CEO of Eurosport, on 24/05/2016.

Eurosport's virtual reality application follows that which was put in place by Discovery Communications (parent company of Eurosport), who launched its virtual reality application in August 2015.

  • The Eurosport application is available on iOS (Apple) and Android, and works with the Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard headsets.
