Euro 2016: Paris police want closure of the fan-zone at the Eiffel Tower, but only for some nights

"I would like to ask the Mayor of Paris to close the fan-zone at the Eiffel Tower on days with games at the Parc des Princes and at the Stade de France, at least until 27/06/2016," wrote Michel Cadot, the chief of police for Paris, on 26/05/2016, addressed to Bernard Cazeneuve, the French Minister of the Interior, and published by the French daily Le Point, on 02/06/2016.

"It will be very difficult to separate rival fans in an area where the consumption of alcohol will be provided by an intermediary of an official Euro 2016 sponsor," added the chief of police.

"I have taken note of the objections presented by those who would like to see all these fans-zones completely shut down, but by the same argument how can security be assured when rival fans are scattered all over the city, in open places where access cannot be controlled?," said Bernard Cazeneuve, presenting the safety plan for Euro 2016 on 25/05/2016.
