"To provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment at football matches and other sports events" is the new objective of the new international convention adopted by the Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe, on 04/06/2016.

"Adopt an integrated, multi-agency and balanced approach towards safety, security and service, based upon an ethos of effective local, national and international partnerships and co-operation," said the Council of Europe in its 'Aim' section of the Preamble, which states that governments are invited to sign it, on Sunday 03/07/2016 at the Stade de France (Saint-Denis, FRA), during the last quarter-final of Euro 2016.

"Sport plays an important role in promoting social integration, tolerance and inter-cultural understanding. Sports events should be carried out in this spirit and, above all, events must be safe. The new Council of Europe Convention shows the way," said Thorbjorn Jagland (NOR), secretary general of the Council of Europe, on 04/06/2016.
